Thanet Games mascot joins Minster Primary for Sports Day

Thanet Games mascot and Minster Primary children

Minster Church of England Primary School enjoyed a visit from the Thanet School Games Mascot on Wednesday, 26th June to kick off their Sports Day.

They took the torch on a journey around the Minster School grounds to mark the beginning of the Thanet School Games – passing the spirit of sport and knowledge of the games.

This torch has visited many of the Thanet Schools. The children enjoyed being involved in a community event.

The Thanet Games run by the area’s Community Safety Partnership links in with the spirit of the forthcoming Paris Olympics and aims to involve as many pupils as possible in a range of sports in the coming weeks.

For schools there are the Children’s Games, starting next week (Monday 8 July). This gives local children an exciting opportunity to leave their school environment, try out new sports and activities, compete in events and, most importantly, have fun!

Following that, it’s on to the family Thanet Games: a week-long series of family fun days across the district, culminating in a spectacular closing ceremony on Friday 23 August.

Games event dates:

  • Monday 19 August – Newington Park, Ramsgate
  • Tuesday 20 August – St. Peters Recreation Ground, Broadstairs
  • Wednesday 21 August – Dane Park, Margate
  • Thursday 22 August – Westgate Recreation Ground, Westgate
  • Friday 23 August – Thanet Games Closing Ceremony at Royal Harbour Academy, (Upper School), Ramsgate

You can sign up to take part here. Events and activities are still being added, so you may also want to follow the Thanet Community Safety Partnership on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date
