The candidates standing in this July’s General Election for the East Thanet and Herne Bay and Sandwich constituencies have now been officially confirmed.
Electoral Calculus currently predicts a Labour win for both seats with the party predicted to take 57% of the vote for the Herne Bay and Sandwich seat – Conservatives 42%- and 92% for East Thanet – Conservatives 8%.
Westbrook, Birchington, Garlinge, Thanet villages wards and Westgate form part of a Herne Bay and Sandwich County Constituency while East Thanet takes in Ramsgate, Broadstairs and most of Margate.
Polls open on Thursday 4 July between 7am and 10pm.

I don’t know anything about Angie (yet), but good to see so many locals standing in Herne Bay and Sandwich. I really don’t think I could vote for anyone who doesn’t live, work in and know the area.
Sunak has completely sabotaged the Conservatives already slim chance of avoiding a disaster. Tories might as well have a kick about on the beach, and then start working on a strategy for the 2029-ish election. No point in waiting until July 5th; do it now!
As someone who’s previously voted for Sir Roger Gale for many years… I agree totally.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Boris back as leader for the next election.
The turnout figure is going to be an interesting one to see. I think many regular Conservative voters just won’t bother this time round.

Tories are toast and Boris cheating lying scumbag has come home to roost. We come from a position of not trusting any politicians, so it is probably the least worst option facing us yet again.
I’m voting for whoever I think would be the best candidate for my particular area, regardless of who runs the country. This is why I’m keeping a very open mind, and listening to what every candidate has to say.
The predicted size of the vote for Labour in East Thanet is huge.

Not all polls are quite so confident, though everyone of them predict that the woman from Islington will win. In Herne Bay and Sandwich, things aren’t so clear cut, with at least one major poll putting Sir Roger Gale (just) ahead.

I think what has been posted above is the probability of the winning party, not the actual % of votes. (Electoral calculus website shows both)
I like the mix.
I’m not sure I understand the obsession with local candidates only. We only have to look at many (not all) of our local elected politicians at every level of councils and competency and experience is lacking in many areas. I like a mix, local and outside, local knowledge, outside knowledge. Shared experience. Learning. Role modelling. For many people, a local candidate however lovable or likeable, simply doesn’t have what we need.
I’d like my MP to live here but they don’t have to be from here.
I’d expect them to move down here because they like the place rather than only if they win. How many of the outsider candidates have claimed they’re coming here regardless? My guess is none.

That’s about as likely as Caroline Lucas leading a Labour-Green merger. Will never happen.
Local voters need to remember this is a General Election and the sole purpose is to elect the next government; which will be Tory or Labour.
It is a binary choice; so vote accordingly.
If you want a Labour government, vote for the Labour Party if ahead or challenging the Tories.
If you want a Tory government, vote for the Conservative party. Or…split the anti-Tory vote by voting for Greens or LibDems or whoever.
Unless LiDems are the challenger party, in which case, voting Labour or Greens or independents will help the Tories win the seat.
Every vote cast will, one way or another, help determine the next government. Voters just need to decide who they want to e the next government….and vote carefully.
No, I’m voting for whoever I think will be the best candidate locally. This is far more important to me than who gets in government.
This Tory government apart from lying to you and making manifesto pledges they have no intention of seeing through, as the maths do not add up, let alone would if implemented create budget cuts still further on
services, they are contradictory of there own policies, tax cuts, NI abolished, stamp duty for first time buyers, national services implemented, how will they pay for the triple lock pension, the NHS, Police, Schools, GP, other services such ad the forces??? Now they are not only taxing you to death through there tax hikes, until now, then it will resume after the election, so more broken promises, they are now literally killing you, lack of medication for critically ill people and for GPs to medicate are so hard to come by with people dying due to this and being placed in more pain and discomfort than they should be. The conservatives will tell you it is due to conflicts, blocked canals and other deflection excuses, as all these are easily dealt with, they deflect with excuses as they hope you will not realise they are incompetent and not up to the job of government, now they lie to you to and when evidence is made public of there lies they do not stop as they should, they continue to scare monger and lie to you. Vote for whoever you want, but if it’s tory, you are part of the problem. It’s only a matter of time before they screw you over if you have not been yet.
As an ex-Tory I’m so looking forward to them being out of government! Never have so few done so much damage to our country. Pity that the lack of money is going to slow the recovery, but at least the new government will be more trustworthy and less corrupt, which will be a great improvement to start with. Of course, they won’t be perfect, but I really believe that not all politicians are the same, and certainly none are as bad as the greedy Tories. 👍

I object to this change of constiuency. I live in THANET
Thanet is more of less everything east of, and including a line drawn from, Birchington to Minster & Cliffsend/Pegwell Bay. Eveything that formed part of what was, historically, the isle is Thanet, everything else is not. The clue is in the name FFS.
This bonkers change is like putting half of the isle of wight in the constituency for Southampton
The constituancy was clearly redrawn for ulterior motives & it’s bloody confusing trying to look up election stuff for Thanet that is not actually Thanet. What moron thought that made any sense to anyone?
