Thirty jobs are being created with the opening of Perico Lounge on Ramsgate seafront next week.
The café/bar is the first business to open a unit at the Royal Sands development on Breach Drive and will start trading on June 12.
West Country based Loungers plc, which also opened Riparo Lounge at Westwood Cross in March, has transformed the site using heavily patterned wallpapers, tiling and stripped wooden floors alongside oversized vintage sofas, upholstered lounge chairs, eclectic artwork and statement wall and pendant lighting.
Perico Lounge will have an all-day menu to cater for coffee with friends, a brunch with family or a relaxed dinner and drinks, featuring everything from tapas and salads to burgers and buttermilk fried chicken, with vegans and those favouring a gluten-free diet well catered for too.
Particular attention will be paid to families with a selection of games, books, colouring pencils and pads on offer. A full menu, high chairs and baby-changing facilities are also available for Little Loungers.

30 jobs, that’s about 29 more than Ramsgate Tunnels have created in a decade.
It has provided endless joy and fascination to many people though… doesn’t that make it worthwhile?

I believe Ramsgate Tunnels is operated under Charity regulations and is not set up to be a significant employer of staff.

Actually it won a considerable amount of funding based on claims of the jobs it would create. It exists on the good will of volunteers. You do realise charities make money too? Try to see the bigger picture occasionally, lest we forget how many people wanted Royal Sands as a park or even dafter as an ice rink or aquarium….instead the development has created jobs and prosperity for the town, the Tunnels not so much.

Rather unfair comment as like other charitable organisations, it is supported by over fifty volunteers.
The number of visitors that the Tunnels have encouraged come mainly from outside Thanet, and their spend in the area will have greatly helped many small businesses and ultimately an increase in jobs.
Is that where the Ice Cream Parlour was promised about 4 years ago but I’ve heard that the back wall is cracked 🙄
Ice cream’s lovely isn’t it. Specially in the winter, being high calorie it warms you up.
I think trade where they are in the winter will be difficult, but hope they do well .
It’s only a short stroll from ‘spoons, etc… but we’ll see!
The difference is you can see Wetherspoons , its quite prominent , the lounge isnt visible from the cliff or harbour parade , so unless you know its there it,ll get missed!

Very friendly & helpful staff at Westwood Cross and the decor makes a change up there. Shame the coffee was luke warm but maybe it was a bad day.
I find that you usually have to ask for a coffee to be ‘extra hot’, just to get it at a normal temperature, like you’d make it at home.
