Charity Golf Day
A fundraising golf day on Friday, June 14 at North Foreland Golf Club has raised £11,300 for local charity Oasis Domestic Abuse Service.
Twenty-one teams took to the fairways for a shotgun start, following coffee and bacon rolls in the clubhouse and played 18 holes on North Foreland’s beautiful course. Despite the recent bad weather, the sun shone all day. The Principle Supporter was Rotary Club of Thanet.
Taking first place was David Parker’s team with a score of 84 points with the Team captained by Trevor Brown coming not far behind in 2nd with 83 points. In 3rd place was Steve Taylor’s Team from match funder Barclays Bank with 82 points. Ann Butt hit Nearest the Pin on the 7th hole and Terry Kidd was Nearest the Line on the 10th. All winners received golfing prizes generously arranged by club professional Alex Blown and sponsored by Lanes Printers of Broadstairs.
In the evening, guests were treated to a 2-course meal, sponsored by Stagecoach with wine donated by Shepherd Neame, which was followed by an entertaining charity auction expertly run by Club Chairman Mike Bastow and Former Chairman Keith Rumblo. All of the funds raised through the auction and raffle were generously matched by Barclays Bank, whose staff also attended, helping to boost the charity pot and raise extra, valuable funds for those affected by Domestic Abuse.
The event was well-supported by local businesses 20 of which sponsored tees and competitions on the course.
Speaking on behalf of Principle Supporter, The Rotary Club of Thanet, Neal Elliott said, “Over the years the Rotary Club has raised considerable funds for Oasis through their annual Boxing Gala which is held in collaboration with the Ramsgate Boxing Club. We were delighted to again be the main sponsors of the Oasis Golf Day 2019, which through the tireless work of the organising committee has been a sell-out, and a guaranteed success”
Oasis Fundraising Manager, Loukia Michael, said, ‘We are absolutely delighted with the success of our third golf day. We are so grateful for the fantastic support received from the local golfing and business communities as well as the excellent hospitality from North Foreland Golf Club. Domestic abuse is such a huge problem in Thanet and the funds raised by this event will help Oasis to support more families affected by this issue. We look forward to next year’s golf day on Friday, July 24’.
Sanctuary of Song
A scratch choir aimed at reaching young people aged 10 and over is holding reearsals in preparation for a big concert next month.
An invite to attend is open to anyone who either just loves singing, or could benefit from a good boost to their self-confidence and well-being.
Remaining sessions are at Trinity Resource Centre, Margate on June 9/16/23/30 6pm-7.30pm, July 7/14 from 6pm-7.30pm and July 2- final rehearsal 6pm-7.15pm, concert from7.30!

Pie Factory Music
The Paramount Foundation CIC has teamed up with Pie Factory Music, a charity founded with the goal of providing free, accessible music and related arts for the young people of East Kent. Aimed primarily at those aged 0-25 years, the joint venture intends to help improve the service for the youth of Thanet.
The Paramount Foundation is an organisation founded by Paramount Independent Property Services (PIPS) and based in Rochester.
After visiting Pie Factory to discuss how the two charities might work together on future projects, Foundation Manager Matt Salisbury discovered that the youth centre was in need of some support with maintenance work.
Reporting back to Grant De-Negri, Managing Director of PIPS, an agreement was made for the leading provider of specialist temporary accommodation to complete the works free of charge.
Matt Bull, PIPS operative, has been visiting Pie Factory’s youth centre regularly over the past three months. During that time, he has replaced flooring and carpets, fitted curtains and blinds, replaced ceiling tiles, fixed faulty doors, erected an art display and completed many other small-fix jobs.
Steph Dickinson, Managing Director of Pie Factory Music, said: “Working together has been fruitful so far and we welcomed the improvements to our youth centre – young people attending Pie Factory Music sessions can continue enjoy high quality provision in a welcoming environment. We’re grateful for the good will and generosity of our community and partners in ensuring that young people have access to the best possible support and opportunities.”
Matt Salisbury, Manager of the Paramount Foundation added: “At The Foundation, one of our goals is to work with partners to provide education and interventions for young people in Medway, and so our link with Pie Factory Music made absolute sense.
“Pie Factory Music is providing wonderful opportunities for young people in Thanet. We plan to continue this partnership into the foreseeable future and work together to secure funding and deliver the top standard of youth work across the region.”
