People are invited to help Margate’s Maurice Morris celebrate his 90th birthday.

Shirley Tomlinson, from Thanet’s Age UK, has arranged a party at the Greek Taverna in Westgate to mark the milestone.

Instantly recognisable as a Margate fixture, Maurice has lived his entire life in the town and is a familiar figure to many.

From the 1950s to 1990s Maurice worked in various roles at Dreamland, including as an usher at the cinema.

It is understood he was an extra in sketches for the Marty Feldman Show.

A regular at the Margate carnival and known for delivering local papers in recent years, Maurice is a much loved resident of Dane Valley. In 2017 he was presented a Dane Valley citizen award in a scheme launched by the then-ward councillors.

The birthday bash is on Tuesday, October 18 from 6.30pm.

Tickets are £10 and include meze, cabaret and music. They can be bought from the Age UK charity shop at 13-15 High Street, Margate, cash only.

The Greek Taverna is at 39 Canterbury Road.

An appeal is also being made for help to find Maurice’s wallet which he lost at the weekend between Dane Valley and Margate High Street .

It had £20, a store card and his upcoming birthday ticket and other items inside.

If found please hand in at the Thanet Age UK shop.
