Margate Carnival is back on its traditional day of the first Sunday in August tomorrow (August 4).

Organisers say: “We have a Summer Sizzler for you, and with the Soul Festival in town, Margate is the place to be dancing in the streets.

“The Carnival will form up in Palm Bay and move off at 2.30pm taking its traditional route down Eastern Esplanade, Fort Crescent, Fort Hill , along the seafront, Canterbury Road and into Westbrook Bay where it will stand down.

“We have had over 40 entries ranging from the Heritage Kent Carnival Courts, Sea Cadets and care homes and children’s charities to dance schools, majorettes and local pubs.

“Highlights include Notting Hill winners, Mahogany Arts, ever popular Sparkles belly dancers and local Samba band, Samba Ya Wantsum.

“Great British Carnival has brought another band playing Dominican mas, Jankanoo and a dragon.

“All in all, we promise a great procession, lots of fun, dancing in the streets and a carnival that celebrates the whole town.”
