Drapers Windmill
Open to the public as part of National Mills Weekend May 13-14.
The national event is under the banner of the SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) and Drapers Windmill Trust has participated in it since it was first organised in the 1980s.
Drapers Mill was built in 1845 by John Holman, a millwright from Canterbury.
The mill will be open both days from noon to 4pm and admission is free.
There will be guided tours and, weather permitting, the windmill’s sweeps will be turning and the 100 year old gas engine can be seen running. There will also be light refreshments and opportunities to buy souvenirs – including wholemeal stone ground flour produced in the mill.

The Beer ‘Like Your Grandad Used To Drink’ Festival
May 13-13, Ramsgate Tunnels
Ramsgate Tunnels, with the aid of some of the team behind the late, lamented Planet Thanet Beer Festival, are proud to present the Beer ‘like your Grandad used to drink’ festival.
Taking place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May, the event will be run over two sessions each day, noon to 4pm and 5pm to 9pm. Admission, including a souvenir glass (yours to keep) and £10 worth of tokens, will be £20 per session. There will be music at the afternoon sessions and the evening sessions will be for those who prefer a quiet drink with conversation.
Beers featured will be of traditional style – bitters, best bitters, porters, stouts, milds, IPAs – along with some traditional cider, soft drinks and hot and cold food. Short “taster tours” will also be available, for those who haven’t experienced the tunnels (or maybe just want a break from the beer!)
All proceeds will go to Ramsgate Heritage Regeneration Trust, which operates the Ramsgate Tunnels.

Ellington Park Fair

One of the biggest events in Ramsgate returns this Sunday, with the annual May Fayre in Ellington Park.
The free event attracts a crowd of thousands to watch live music on the bandstand, look at classic cars, enjoy a visiting fun fair, and shop from local traders at a market across the park.
The popular Ellington Park Bookshop is open all afternoon. After a stockroom clear out to make way for new stock, they will have books starting from 50p
There will be a variety of food on offer, including pizza, burgers, and vegan options. There will also be a beer tent, and the Ellington Cafe – built as part of the 2021 restoration of the park – is open all day.
Members of The Ramsgate and District Model Engineering Club will be running their 5″-gauge locomotives and offering rides. There will be a variety of fairground rides for children, too.
On the bandstand through the afternoon will be performers including singer-songwriter Luke Dorman, Daisy Dorman, Akadem, and The SuperMicks, who take their influences from Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Oasis, The Beatles, and Queen.
And Great British Carnival’s samba drummers Samba Ya Wantsum will make an appearance
Admission to the park is by donation, with funds raised covering the costs and supporting other community projects around the park. Rides and other activities may be charged for.
The Friends of Ellington Park May Fayre runs from 11am-6pm on Sunday 14th May.

El Galeon Tall Ship

A rare chance to get on board and look around the El Galeon Tall Ship.
Open to the public 10am – 8pm every day up until the 14th and moored near the RNLI Station in the centre of the harbour
El Galeón is a tall ship unlike any other – a floating museum with over 3,400 square feet of deck space filled with exhibits for visitors to explore. Galleons were armed merchant vessels employed by the Spanish crown from the 16th through 18th centuries.
