A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of a serious assault in Westgate where a 74-year-old man was attacked in the communal area of warden assisted flats.
The man was struck and knocked unconscious by youths who, the victim’s stepdaughter said, had been entering Countess Mountbatten Court in Canterbury Road and ‘terrorising residents.’
Kent Police officers have been appealing for information since the incident, which took place between 5pm and 5.45pm on Tuesday 7 February.
The pensioner was assaulted after confronting a group of young people who were in the building. He suffered head and foot injuries and was taken to QEQM Hospital for treatment.
Yesterday (April 7) patrols were called to reports of anti-social behaviour in the same place. On arrival they spoke to a 15-year-old boy who matched the description of one of the suspects for the assault. The teen was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and has been released on police bail whilst enquiries continue.
