Sequel dress agency in Broadstairs promising everything from ‘Louis Vuitton to Zara’

Sequel dress agency will officially open this weekend

A dress agency in Broadstairs selling everything from Louis Vuitton and Chanel to Zara and “lots of lovely bits” will have its official opening on Saturday (August 13).

Sequel, in Albion Street, is headed up by Nicola Killington who lives in Pegwell with husband Darren and their two children.

The 42-year-old had run a dress agency shop in London for 17 years before making the decision five years ago to leave the capital behind in favour of life on the coast.

She said: “I had the dress agency in London for 17 years but it just got really scary there. I was held up with a knife and then the rate relief also changed so I was paying hundreds of pounds more.

“My mum and dad had always wanted to live by the coast and we had been visiting friends in Pegwell for about 10 years so when my shop lease ended I felt it was the right time to move, go to the coast and spend more time with my children.

“Then covid came along and I spent lots of time with my children!”

Three weeks ago Nicola popped into town and had a browse around the charity shops and began to think how her dress agency could fit in.

She said: “I walked around the corner and there was an empty shop. I phoned up the number, got the keys Tuesday last week and did the painting, decorated, my dad was my handy man and then we had a soft opening last Saturday.

“Everything was purchased locally through facebook marketplace, I even got the most beautiful chandelier from there.”

This week the remaining work to fit security and get shop signs up has taken place ready for Saturday’s grand opening.

Nicola said: “There are things from Louboutin and Chanel to a nice little top from Zara. It isn’t all designer, as long as it is in a good as new condition and saleable, then it just has to be nice.

“All ages of people have come in from an 18-year-old who bought trainers to some lovely ladies who bought different bits. The shop is not niche or vintage just an affordable, broad range.”

Sequel works by taking pre-loved clothes and selling on a commission basis.

The official opening takes place at 10am on Saturday.
