A special lighting of the lantern tower and a countdown sequence at St George’s Church in Ramsgate will take place this New Year’s Eve.
The façade of the tower will be lit as people gather for the town’s lantern parade from 4pm.
The parade, with the theme of Love, Peace and Joy to the World, will form outside the church at 4.15pm, setting off at 4:45pm and led by drummers of Samba Ya Wansum. Following a route down the High Street and Harbour Street and finishing at the Ramsgate Tunnels for refreshments and more fun.
After the parade there will be the New Year’s Eve lighting at St George’s Church and late night revellers can catch a special midnight light show from the lantern tower.
Thanet lighting specialist James Brown AV will be creating a midnight countdown lighting display. The lighting sequence will begin from shortly after 10pm, running until midnight and will incorporate the golden ratio approximations (Fibonacci sequence) 18 steps of 3x cycles of 6x colours.
Jemima Brown, Regeneration Officer for the church’s Project 200, said: “We are hoping for good weather for the parade earlier in the evening and if there are clear skies as midnight strikes, locals will get some great views of the light show from the lantern.”
Funded by Canterbury Diocese, Project 200 is now entering year 4 of the 5 year project and has seen increased numbers attending St George’s Church for concerts and events.
