A Broadstairs councillor has voiced her frustration as a road closure means St Peter’s residents are without a bus service once again.
The latest closure is at St Peters Park Road, closed to through traffic from yesterday (December 28) for up to seven days.
The road is closed from outside number 63 St Peters Park Road.
The alternative route is via A255 Broadstairs Road, Vicarage Street, Church Street and Albion Road.
This closure is for emergency underground cable fault works to be carried out by UK Power Networks.
The 8X and Loop services will be diverting via Dane Court Road, College Road and Millmead.
Earlier this month roadworks on Northdown Hill meant a road closure with buses having to divert.
Cllr Jenny Matterface said: “Yet again St. Peter’s residents are without a bus service following roadworks closing Albion Road. The Loop is on diversion but it isn’t clear where passengers can get a bus.
“How many times over the last year have those of us who use buses been left without any service? Thank goodness the 37 route isn’t also affected (yet) by the closure of Albion Street at the bottom of Broadstairs High Street.
“Church Street, St. Peter’s, is scheduled for closure next week so hopefully one lot of roadworks are finished before the next lot start.”
The 37 route runs four times a day.
Stagecoach suggests using the app to keep updated on when the road reopens and the usual bus route resumes.

On a related note, I wish local politicians would kick up a fuss over the scrapping of buses on Boxing Day since 2020. The Loop was always very busy all day long.
@peterchecksfield bus drivers are allowed time off for Christmas too u know , they have family’s etc , surely 3 days over Xmas and new year don’t hurt , why should other people not work and spend time with loved ones but expect a bus driver to work and not spend time with family , very selfish . I’d get used to it because it’s not going to change anytime soon, personally I think all shops should be closed Boxing Day too like some shops still do .
In London, all buses run a full Sunday service on Boxing Days. Time for Thanet to even things up, and join the 21st Century.

Thanet does not have many non Xmas celebrating bus drivers, if any, that I have seen.
London, on the other hand, I gather, is the exact opposite, and has many bus drivers that do fit that description.

They never struggled to get local Boxing Day bus drivers prior to Covid.
I personally used to love working Boxing Day at the Winter Gardens for Pantomime season, as did all of my colleagues… even on standard minimum wage!

Getting drivers to work Boxing day has always been nigh on impossible.
They had to rely on imported drivers from other depots, mostly ex Gurkhas, if I remember rightly.
Even then there were not enough to run the advertised service.

Roads never used to be fully closed when road works were needed. There was traffic lights put up and only half the road at a time shut. This latest phenomenon just causes traffic jams elsewhere and upheaval for users of buses and cars. KCC needs to stop this latest craze or get works done quickly through the night like they manage in other Countries.
I drove buses for the old East Kent, we had a service running on Boxing Day, I never had any problem working that day and I had a young family.
We did of course run when there was snow and ice.
People were less lazy in our day, John!

Bus drivers work on average 45 hrs a week that’s not lazy that’s full time , b4 u call people lazy think about it first ,

Wait till next week when buses won’t be serving northdown rd due to closure or broadstairs as Road by college is shut then there will be moaning , guess they will have to get off at broadway or Cliftonville seafront , bet bus company will get blamed so go and moan to KCC
