Young voices are on song at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary in Margate.
Children have been working at a local music studio to record a special anthem to mark the jubilee year being celebrated by Catholic schools nationwide.
They took part in the professional recording session at Messiah Riff Studios hosted by its owner Dan Lloyd, turning a creative school project into an unforgettable real-world experience.
The anthem was born from a special challenge set by St Gregory’s music lead Jordan Gilbert, who said: “The children had so many wonderful lyric ideas, so it all came together fast. It’s a brilliant, catchy song which celebrates our school’s values. I’ve always wanted to give the children the opportunity to have the experience of entering a music studio.”
The young singers threw themselves into the recording process, enthusiastically laying down vocals and bringing their lyrics to life. The result is a heartfelt, energetic anthem that reflects the unity, spirit, and creativity at the heart of St Gregory’s School.
Mr Lloyd praised the pupils for their passion and professionalism. He said: “They brought amazing energy and talent into the studio. It was inspiring to watch them transform their song from an idea into something of which they can all be proud.”
The project has not only left the school community buzzing but has also given the children a taste of the world of music production — an experience they’ll remember for years to come.
Assistant Head Teacher Athanasia Papa-Adams said: “Keep an ear out – our new anthem might soon be ringing beyond the school gates.
“Every class had a chance to contribute to the lyrics to feel some ownership over our school song. Having the opportunity to record the song in a studio added to the excitement and buzz around the school. The school song represents everything that St Gregory’s stands for.”
Head Teacher Dave Walker added: “This sort of diverse and memorable experience beyond traditional classroom learning is just the sort of opportunity that we pride ourselves of offering our children. What a fabulous opportunity to create inside a professional recording studio and come away with their own song to celebrate an important part of our school life.”
