A former scout building in Margate has sold for £132,000 – way above the £60,000 guide price.
The former Scout hall in Brockley Road was historically used by the 10th Margate (St Pauls) Scout Group. The group formed in 1915 and was the only group that functioned during World War II, with scouts from all over the district meeting at the hall.
Clive Emson auctioneers say the might have potential for a variety of alternative schemes if all necessary consents are obtainable.
Jon Rimmer, auction appraiser, said: “This former Scout hall has an ecclesiastic air and it sits in a residential road in Margate town centre.
“The property has an open plan ground floor with storage on the first floor and a small parcel of land to the side.
“It may lend itself to conversion to a residential property if all necessary consents are obtainable. We had 11 bidders battling it out.”
Land in Sacketts Gap off Palm Bay Avenue also exceeded its guide price.
The freehold was listed for £10,000-plus but was sold for £18,000.
The site may be suitable for development of perhaps a kiosk/concessions stand or similar, subject to all necessary consents being obtainable.
