Thanet Taekwon-Do aka Master Wolf’s Academies of Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing, has been running for almost 50 years and over this time the group have enjoyed amazing tournament success.
From National to International champions, the club is proud to have produced a multitude of World Champions in both Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing.
The group once again rose to the challenge, competing at the 2024 WKU (World Kickboxing & Karate Union) World Championships in Rhodes, Greece – starting the week of 21st October.
This event had 2185 entries from 23 countries from around the globe and was hosted in Rhodes, Greece. Competitors fought over two days of preliminary rounds, followed by two days of finals.
The elimination days were intense, starting at 9am and some finishing at 10:45pm. Many competitors had to battle through some of the highest and toughest calibre of opponents to reach the finals – an achievement in itself. The intensive four days was a physical and mental challenge for the athletes and the team of coaches supporting them.
The squad consisted of 21 fighters of all ages who competed in a range of disciplines: Light contact sparring, kick light sparring, points fighting and Karate Kumite.
The medal tally achieved from this relatively small group of competitors was astounding. The combined contingent from England came second in the tournament overall; and the group from Master Wolf’s Academies ultimately won the best Academy from the whole event.
Master Wolf and his team of coaches are immensely proud of all of the members who competed. We like to praise the effort put in to training rather than the outcome – in this case the outcome was fantastic but the work ethic in the build up to this tournament is what we are most proud of.
Final medal tally:18 Gold; 17 Silver; 21 Bronze.
The squad is already looking forward to next year’s WKU World Championships being held in Trier, Germany.
Classes are available in the Thanet and Canterbury areas, with sessions for children of 4-years old through to teenagers and adults.
