A man has been remanded in custody accused of offences including an aggravated burglary in Broadstairs where a man in his 70s was assaulted in his own home and had jewellery stolen from him.

Darren Giardina, 44, of no fixed address was charged on Wednesday, September 18 with two burglaries, an aggravated burglary and theft.

The charges follow reports of a theft in Broadstairs on August 24 where keys were stolen and burglaries at two Ramsgate properties between July 27 and September 13. Incidents include the aggravated burglary in Swinburne Avenue on September 6 where the victim suffered cuts and bruises  and was taken to hospital for treatment..

Mr Giardina appeared before Medway Magistrates’ on Thursday, September 19 and has been remanded in custody. He is next due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on October 21.
