Road closed in Birchington following collision

Police attended the scene of an accident in Birchington and closed the road today (February 27).

The incident took place at 11.25am on the A28 Canterbury Road, Birchington. The stretch was closed both ways from Station Road to Charlesworth Drive.

Village shopkeepers report that an elderly man was hit by a vehicle. The man has been taken to hospital with a head injury.

Traffic was being diverted out towards Quex and Acol.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called to a collision involving a car and pedestrian in Canterbury Road at 11.25am.

“Officers attended the scene along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service where the pedestrian, a man, was taken to hospital.”

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman added: “Ambulance crews attended the scene following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle shortly before 11.20am.

“The male pedestrian was assessed and treated for a head injury at the scene before being taken to William Harvey Hospital.”

The road was reopened at around 1pm.
