Get ready for a right Carry On at Margate’s Britannia pub

Horace and Paul from the Britannia

There will be a right Carry On at the Britannia pub in Margate this weekend.

The Fort Hill boozer is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first Carry On film – Carry On Sergeant – by holding a weekend of themed fun starting with a Carry On Camping offer from Friday (August 31) to Sunday.

Take a tent, pitch up at the pub and enjoy all the events. Cost is £10 per tent per night. There are also some tents available to hire.

Films will be on show over the weekend and, on Saturday, there will be a Carry On Disco with Matron. Local radio presenter Horace will be dressing up as Matron, complete with ample bust.

Fancy dress is encouraged and there will be a host of lookalike and soundalike competitions. A Carry On bingo session will also be held on Saturday from 2pm.

On Sunday there will be lunch, Carry On up the Khyber style and to end the weekend there will be karaoke for anyone wishing to Carry On Singing.

Britannia Pub landlord Paul Rollins was approached by entertainment and radio presenter Horace and asked if he would like to host a Carry On themed weekend. Paul put it to the customers and they loved the idea. Many of them will be attending in fancy dress as a character from the iconic films.

Horace said: “We will be having a raffle, tombola and bingo with all the money going to Alzheimer’s Research UK in honour of Dame Barbara Windsor who was recently diagnosed with the illness.

“Dame Barbara is supporting the event by doing the voice overs for the weekend. We are aiming to raise as much money for this very worthy cause as possible as this is a charity that hits people and their families hard and you never when it will happen.

“People in Ipswich who love the films have even booked to stay in one of the tents for the weekend!”
