Westgate’s Taylor Lawrence is among 53 Team GB athletes currently competing at the 25th Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Milan Cortina.
He is in the Team GB bobsleigh squad alongside pilot Brad Hall, which is the most successful British crew for the sport in nearly a century.
In 2022 Taylor and his teammates took gold at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation World Cup in Lake Placid, USA.
The gold added to a tally of medals for 2021/22, which saw a hat-trick of silver medals in the World Cup 4-man competition in Winterberg (twice) and Igls.
Thanet ace Taylor is a serving Royal Marine and only started bobsleigh in 2019 when he was drafted into Brad Hall’s injury-hit crew.
Two years later his place at the Olympics was secured, forming part of Britain’s four-man team led by pilot Hall that came in sixth place.
In 2023 he was part of Hall’s crew that won a first four-man World Championships medal in 84 years – and the team also made history by being crowned European champions for the first time, adding further World and European bronze medals to their name in 2025.
Taylor, who is married to ex-skeleton athlete Emily Jo Lawrence and welcomed a baby boy last December, suffered a calf injury at the start of the season but is now back on the circuit for the two-man and four-man bobsleigh events at the Milan Cortina Games.
With bobsleigh back in the spotlight, Taylor is part of a new generation pushing the sport forward. The 29-year-old hopes the team will achieve gold in one of the fastest sports on ice.

He told Games partner NatWest: “A lot of the work that shapes performance happens when nobody’s watching, the early mornings, the repetition, the discipline. Whether it’s ice, track or concrete, the standard doesn’t change.”
Taylor takes part in the two man bobsleigh, heat 1, on Monday (February16) followed by the four-man training heats.
