A 32-year-old man has been charged with arson following a blaze set on Ramsgate’s East Pier on Sunday night (September 27).
Police, paramedics, fire crews and Ramsgate RNLI were called to pier at 10.43pm to a report of a fire in the area of the port control office and the Royal Harbour Brasserie.
A man at the scene leapt from the radar tower was retrieved from the water after Ramsgate RNLI launched the inshore lifeboat at 11.17pm. He was arrested on suspicion of arson and was taken to hospital by ambulance crews.
Yesterday (September 28), Adam Hudson, of Margate Road, Ramsgate, was charged with arson, criminal damage and assaulting an emergency worker.
Mr Hudson, 32, was remanded in custody to appear before Margate magistrates today.
Seven fire engines attended the scene, where crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire with main jets.
The Ramsgate Harbour Brasserie suffered water damage during the operation to put out the fire and is currently closed.
