Signs advising against bathing or entering the sea were put up at beaches from St Mildred’s Bay, Westgate, to Ramsgate Western Undercliff yesterday (September 8).
The precautionary measure followed confirmation from Southern Water that there has been a sewerage outfall release within the last 24 hours that may have affected water quality.
A pollution alert for West Bay in Westgate and Fulsam Rock, Margate, also put in place yesterday has been removed.
However, advice against bathing remains at beaches from St Mildred’s Bay, Westgate to Ramsgate Western Undercliff remains following confirmation from Southern Water of the outfall release.

Yep, Southern Water cannot cope with water from the skies. Or from anywhere really. It is truly disgraceful, especially in an area that relies on tourism to such a great degree.
Southern Water don’t care, it’s cheaper to just keep paying the fines than invest in the infrastructure, making sure those promised dividends are paid to the shareholders and top management get their massive yearly bonus
I’m guessing those signs aren’t kept at the back of the cupboard.

The amount of people blaming southern water it’s a bit of a coincidence that every time we have heavy rain fall the road run off drains go into the sea untreated. The other issue is the companies chucking up houses here there and everywhere. With the lack of thought around waste. Personally I think the companies that are building these houses should pay to have waste water treatment plants for said houses. Not being funny the Victorian sewers we have weren’t designed to have this much waste sent through them. It’s not rocket science just open your eyes. So southern water get the back lash all because there is copious amounts of fecal matter along side the road drain run offs that they cant treat therefore sending it into the sea. it’s been happening for years and will continue to happen unless more waste water plants are build simple. Maybe if these people moaning about it got off there backsides and actually protested about it to the companies that are building the houses something might get done about it instead of moaning online lol
These new builds have tenants who pay Southern Water so where does that money go?…I agree that the Victorian system is not fit for purpose now but that is the responsibility of the water companies.It rains heavily in Scotland and the water companies do not routinely dump sewage into the sea. So there is a solution but as long as water is not run for the public interest it will remain in the state it is
Some of the van life gang recently evicted from Undercliffe are now gracing Pegwell Road with their presence , whilst others circle around and park up around Westcliff . Not welcome – more will follow – not wanted – don’t care if one is supposed to have sympathy with them – they are taking the rise
