A new RSPCA shop is opening in Broadstairs with funds going to the Thanet branch of the animal charity.
The shop joins other outlets in Ramsgate, Margate, Westgate and Birchington – with another due in Cliftonville imminently.
Money is used by the branch, which is independent of the national charity, for its work looking after animals that need rehoming and/or medical care and rehabilitation.
Shop manager Nicola Smith said: “We decided to open in Broadstairs as we wanted to expand as we serve all of Thanet. We will also be opening a shop in Cliftonville.
“The shops fund our animal welfare work and bring in a massive percentage of our costs, which helps us continue our work with our animals, every single penny goes to our branch. It is independent so we have to raise our own running costs.”
The Thanet branch, based in Woodchurch, has a 15 pen cattery, an Isolation Block comprising of four dog kennels and four cat pods and a vets’ room. The team look after cats, dogs, rabbits, other small animals and even wildlife in need.
Running costs are around £300,000 per year and this is raised through the shops, fundraising events, legacies, donations from the public, local school and business support and sponsorship.
The Broadstairs shop at 110 High Street opens on Saturday (June 27). Opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 9aqm to 4.30pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
