A 48-hour dispersal order has been enacted in Broadstairs following issues with a large number of youth arriving at the town by train.
There have been reports of shoplifting, loud music, swearing and nuisance behaviour. The dispersal order went live at 4.30pm today (April 9) and will run through until Saturday.
The additional power ensures people of any age above 10, who are seen to be carrying out nuisance behaviour, can be moved away from the area. If they return within a certain time limit, they risk arrest and additional police action.
Marc One is contracted by Broadstairs and St Peter’s Town Council to provide additional security in the town.
Head of Operations at Marc One Security, Tisha D’Cruze, said: “After an incident last year the council, police, along with our teams, have been very proactive to ensure the residents and visitors have an enjoyable summer.”
A message from a Broadstairs beat officer to residents says: “On April 9, due to ongoing ASB, a Sec 34 Dispersal order was issued.
“A large group of youths were located in Pierremont Park. We have used the dispersal powers on these youths, those who chose not to leave swiftly were provided dispersal paperwork, for two people.
“Whilst engaging with local youths a group from Canterbury arrived, with several being dispersed as well, totalling four from this group. A further four local youths were dispersed after lingering in the town area, with an E-scooter seized from one.”
Dispersal orders across Thanet and high-visibility patrols were in place last year following continued issues, particularly in Broadstairs, with antisocial behaviour including fighting, underage drinking and criminal damage.
In the last 12 months Kent Police has enacted 227 dispersal zones set up in areas across the county suffering from antisocial behaviour, with a total of 261 people made to leave those areas.

There are limited powers the police can use to stop anti-social behaviour and this is one of them. I am not sure how well it goes when you have kids running amok on the sands and throughout the town though when the police themselves are limited in numbers.
Yes, it isn’t like they could have foreseen it as soon as the kiddies are on school holiday & the sun comes out.

“Arriving by train” – so boarded a train, whilst on the train had no tickets checked, (funny how the rest of us are). Disembarked at Broadstairs and again left the station without a ticket check. Southeastern have done absolutely nothing to prevent this occurring again this year, and it’s only April.
Anybody would think that sacking large swathes of staff to increase the millionaire boss & shareholder profits has some drawbacks.

I challenged a group of them today in Broadstairs beach. Really loud music and foul. Music turned off immediately, and apology given for the language.
After they moved on I was admonished by a woman who said I was spoiling their fun and I should know better.
Oh well!
A result AND an apology! It can be scary engaging with groups of teenagers but if you’re up to it that is so valuable. Involving the police, though sometimes necessary, ups the anti and can result in more confrontation and posturing. Sounds like they felt respect for you and you did really well.
I vaguely recall being a teen. Self-awareness not great, a lot of peer-pressure and so on. One adult who is confident and firm can be rather reassuring for them I think.
Hi Kathy this goes on in Margate as well mainly locals and visitors during the day and in the evening especially these young lads and girls riding up and down the high street and Cecil square and down elephant hill riding their bikes dangerously going down the wrong way down the lower high street i see this all the time no disrespect to the local police but hardly seen any off them the pcso s finish early I believe there is a CCTV camera looking down that part of the lower high street on the side of the Boots store best wishes Brian 😎 how is the byelection going no doubt you will be covering it

Broadstairs is fast becoming a complete no go area .. it’s honestly terrifying..
