St George’s Day parade workshops
St George’s Church is again working with Great British Carnival to bring another spectacular community parade and celebration to Ramsgate for St George’s Day.
The parade will take place on April 19 and in the lead up there are a number of workshops for those wanting to make costumes and parade props.
These take place at St George’s Church Ramsgate from 1.30pm to 3,30pm between April 10, 13-17, and from noon to 3pm on April 18.
On parade day people are invited to meet at the church at noon to collect parade piece and watch the St George and the Dragon Mummers play before moving off at 12.30pm.
Following the parade there will be an expanded entertainment programme in the Church

Cherry Tree Walk
A walk in Dane Park on April 11 will be guided by tree expert Peter Hasted with participants able to discover what lies behind Hanami, the Japanese tradition of enjoying the fleeting beauty of flowers, especially Sakura – the blossom of the cherry trees.
Hanami (花見, “flower viewing”) is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers.
Peter Hasted, of Thanet Urban Forest, will guide you through the park, whilst sharing his knowledge of trees and the story of ‘Cherry’ Ingram.
Collingwood ‘Cherry’ Ingram grew up in Westgate-on-Sea where he gained his love of birds. He was and still is a much-revered ornithologist and cherry tree expert.
The walk starts at 10am. Be prepared for a 1 to 1.5 hour walk through the park, wearing suitable footwear – sturdy shoes or boots are recommended, with waterproofs and some water to drink.
There is a price range for tickets – £4, £6 & £10. All ticket fees will go towards supporting the work of Thanet Urban Forest CIC.

Other East Kent Artists’ exhibition
10th April-1st May, The Old Church 104 Mortimer Street Herne Bay
One of the aims of the Sarah Baulch Gallery, in Herne Bay, is to bring art from outside of the town into the old church it occupies. And this led to a conversation with Dan Bass, of Margate, to reach out to people who might want to get involved in such a venture.
Since that conversation the ‘Other East Kent Artists’ Show has taken on a life of its own. With over 25 people, from over the River Wantsum, showing work, ranging from professional artists to those people who don’t even consider themselves as artists, some of whom are exhibiting for the first time in their life.
The show will be installed for Friday 10th April with a Private View that evening from 6pm-8pm.
Ozzy and the uglies at Broadstairs bandstand on Sunday afternoon looks good.
