Understanding the needs of the community and fostering a commitment to charitable causes is a vital part of students’ personal and moral development.
In 2025, Sandwich Technology School raised more than £10,000 for a range of local and national charities, including The Sandwich Pantry, The Sandwich Jubilee Centre, Martha Trust and South Kent Mind. This year, they hope to exceed that total.
To support this ambition, the school launched its first-ever Charity Week, bringing students and staff together for fun and impactful fundraising activities.
The week began with a lively photobooth session, where students and staff embraced the fun with playful props and big smiles. “It created a really fun atmosphere whilst raising important funds for the Alzheimer’s Society,” said Mr Baldwin from STS.
One of the most popular events was Soak the Teacher. Staff were good sports as students lined up to soak them with rapid-fire sponges, buckets, and even a hose!
A bustling tombola followed, before students were given the opportunity to choose a design to be shaved into a teacher’s hair. The more they donated, the longer the hairstyle would stay in place. Students enthusiastically contributed and ultimately voted for an arrow design.
The week concluded with an ambitious 24-hour cycling challenge, where staff worked in teams to keep three spin bikes going continuously for a full day. The event was livestreamed on YouTube, drawing support from the wider community.
Over the 24 hours, the bikes covered an incredible 1,085 miles, averaging 15 miles per hour per bike, and burning 33,243 calories collectively. The challenge raised an impressive £6,400 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
