A dad-of-two from Broadstairs is celebrating after being one half of the duo who won the Essex Pro Wrestling Entertainment tag team championship at a Fright Night event.
Jamie Hill, who has been wrestling since 2019, goes into the ring under the name of The Highlander and is understood to be the first Broadstairs pro wrestler to ever win a championship from an outside of Kent organisation.
The Highlander’s win as one half of the EPWE Tag Team Champions in Birchington on October 31 marks a defining moment in his career.
The Highlander’s mystery partner was revealed on the night as The Poltergeist.
Since the Highlander’s triumphant singles return in July, Poltergeist had been calling him out relentlessly but now they had to fight together.
Their first test came immediately but after a devastating giant spear to Bulldozer, The Highlander felt a surge of confidence.
The main event was brutal with competition in the shape of the formidable Kris Oak and the unpredictable Zak E. Centric, the notorious Blood & Glitter pair, jumped the Highlander and Poltergeist from the opening bell, raining down kendo stick attacks.
But then, the Highlander and Poltergeist found their rhythm, working with tag team synergy that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Disaster struck when Zak delivered a vicious finisher to the Highlander and Kris Oak followed with a crushing splash.
Highlander’s body shook under the impact but somehow, he kicked out and Poltergeist surged into the ring with a fiery counterattack.
The Highlander asked the roaring crowd if he should strike and the answer came loud and clear. He swung the kendo stick at Zak, only to be low blowed by Oak, who then hurled Poltergeist across the ring.
Oak tried to set Highlander up for Zak’s spear but the Highlander evaded just in time, sending Zak crashing into Oak.
Seizing the moment, Poltergeist hit a massive cutter. The referee counted 1…2…3. Victory and both Highlander and Poltergeist were handed the inaugural EPWE tag team titles.
Jamie, 33, has been a support worker in mental health since 2012 and also volunteers with Kent County Council Family Hubs supporting youth programmes.
He also runs his own promotion outlet, Local Wrestling Entertainment.
