A big-hearted Ramsgate 10-year-old is on a mission to raise £1000 for the Stroke Association by making and selling bead bracelets.
St Ethelbert’s pupil Lily Cook was given a bracelet making kits for Christmas from her mum and dad and decided she would make and sell them for the charity because her nan had suffered a stroke and is still recovering.
Every Sunday for the last eight weeks Lily has set up a stall outside her home in Margate Road – opposite the shop parade and Mr Chips – from 11am to 3pm and has so far raised more than £560.
The busy youngster has also been studying for her Kent Test and spends every Saturday at the Pauline Quirke Academy learning stage and singing skills. She will be part of the cast for the PQA show in London next month.
Lily said: “I feel like it is a nice thing to do and it will help people who have had strokes with getting their speech better and getting healthier and things like that.
“I enjoy making them and I like telling people the prices and helping them with what options to pick.”
Mum Gemma, who is head of nursing for Gastroenterology at QEQM Hospital, said: “Lily has made a few thousand bracelets. If the beads are bigger it is easier so takes five or ten minutes.
“She also has had help from Expression Signs who made her sign and a friends who does printing and made her T-shirts.”
