Writing Our Legacy has joined forces with Margate Arts Club to bring its popular Poetry Room event to Margate on Sunday 14 September.
The event will feature some of the UK’s finest poets, thinkers and musicians.
The Sussex-based grassroots arts organisation exists to support Black, Asian and ethnically diverse/BPOC (Black, People of Colour) people to tell their stories through writing and the creative arts.
Poetry Room Margate features two special acts:
A guest appearance by Margate based award-winning poet and visual artist Kareem Parkins-Brown. His debut pamphlet Oi You Lot (Little Betty) has made waves across the UK poetry scene.
A live performance extract from Akila M. Richards’ Mango Ritual show – a mesmerising fusion of spoken word and music that is drawn from the celebrated poet’s recent pamphlet ‘Ritual For A Mango’ (Flipped Eye). Akila Richards is joined on stage by Cuban Afro-Latin singer, songwriter and poet Adriana Lord; and British-Congolese vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Liz Ikamba.
Providing the ambience is DJ Fever2Ray, from music promoter African Night Fever, playing Global Roots beats of Africa, Afrobeat, Afrobeats, Soukous, Reggae, and a twist of Malax, plus your welcoming host for the evening, MC Akila M. Richards.
This is the first time Writing Our Legacy has brought the event to Kent, following a series of popular Poetry Rooms across towns and cities, including Brighton, Glasgow and Winchester.
