Police officers have targeted those committing traffic offences following concerns raised by the local community.
On Monday (1 September), Kent Police carried out a dedicated traffic operation across Thanet, with concentrated attention in Dane Valley focusing on traffic offences and safety issues.
The initiative was in response to concerns raised by residents and business to the area’s Beat Officer, PC Godden.
Thanet’s Neighbourhood Task Force and Roads Safety Unit worked together to focus on the fatal four of driving: speeding, drink driving, not wearing a seat belt and using a mobile phone. Proactive police patrols consisting of both marked and unmarked vehicles deployed across the district to apprehend suspicious drivers.
The action resulted in four vehicles being seized for offences including no insurance and drug driving; nine Traffic Offence Reports issued for violations such as driving without a licence, using a mobile phone, and carrying insecure loads; four Section 23 drug searches conducted and two arrests, one for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and another for shoplifting.
Among the seized vehicles were:
- A Mercedes driven without a licence, with the driver testing positive for cannabis.
- A Peugeot linked to Class A drug supply.
- A VW whose passenger was found to be wanted for a number of shoplifting offences totalling over £160.
Inspector Richard Batten said: “This operation sends a clear message; criminal behaviour and reckless driving have no place on our roads. By acting on community concerns, Kent Police is actively making Thanet a safter place.”
Hopefully, St.Peters Road next. Drivers continuously doing 70mph+ past the Lister Road junction up to the old side of the hospital. Anyone pulling out of that junction has no chance. Surprised they haven’t killed anyone yet.
I have reported it numerous times to Kent Police, but it needs others to do the same, otherwise they’ll do nothing.
Given the road design there makes 70mph an impossible feat, thanks to physics…how exactly have you measured this speed? What brand and model of device and when was it last calibrated?
We also need a further (and continuous) crack-down on those using footpaths for electric scooters.
One can rarely drive between Ramsgate and Margate without seeing at least one (and often two or three) in the space of the 15 minute drive.
Agreed. Police should be going into schools to seize them.
The FOUR electric scooters that I spotted on my journey from Ramsgate to Margate today were all ridden by adults not school children.
As adults they were old enough to know better – but each was zipping along with their nose in the air and a devil-may-care attitude – typical of those with a total disregard for the law (and little chance of being caught in any event).
