A Thanet Wanderers charity fun run this month will raise money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of two members who lost their lives last year.
The rugby club run, now in its 40th year, is on August 24th and will support the charity in memory of John Duffy and Brad Teall.
The rugby club has once again teamed up with the Hotel De Ville in Grange Road where more funds will be raised through a huge raffle organised by John’s wife Kim.
The parents of three and grandparents of three had been together for 27 years and would have celebrated their 25th anniversary last year.
John had been a regular at the Hotel De Ville and a member of Thanet Wanderers. During his working life he built and maintained tunnel machinery and was the lead on the team which built the Royal Harbour Approach Tunnel at the Westcliff.
After open heart surgery five years ago, John struggled to recover. He died on April 24, 2024, aged 68.
Kim, 69, has gained some 300 prizes for the raffle to be held at the pub and says she has had to make up hampers so the draw doesn’t go on all night!
The event will also remember dad-of-three Brad Teall, a local business man and Thanet Wanderer player, who died in July last year.
Registration opens at 10am at Thanet Wanderers club Wanderers club in Callis Court Road.
Walkers and children set off at 10.30am and runners leave at 11am.
Fancy dress is encouraged and there will be prizes for the best outfit, for most charity money raised and for the first adult and child to reach the Government Acre finish line.
To take part is £10 adults and £5 children.
The club has teamed up with the Hotel de Ville in Grange Road which will have entertainment, prizes and the huge raffle.

All money raised will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.
