Developer Barratt David Wilson Homes is holding a public exhibition to show plans for 170 properties on land off Ramsgate Road in Margate.
The development is earmarked for green space behind The Nightingales hospital accommodation and is sandwiched by Ramsgate Road and St Peter’s Road.
The developer has other sites on the isle including Spitfire Green in Ramsgate and Tothill in Minster.
An outline planning application for the build is due to be submitted to Thanet council.
The plot is ‘green wedge’ land protected in the Thanet Local Plan and the Broadstairs & St Peter’s Neighbourhood Plan.
The public exhibition takes place on Wednesday, April 23 from 4pm-7.30pm at Cliftonville Community Centre is St Paul’s Road.
David Wilson Homes is part of Barratt Developments plc, the country’s largest housebuilder.
They cannot sell the new builds as it is, so why build more on good green belt land, that can be used for good use of growing food.
A good location to give the houses to NHS staff that are waiting on the housing association list.
Not in the local plan, on the green wedge.

Has TDC made any comment on this yet? The exhibition is being held by a devious manipulative developer, not by the council.
As the margate county councillor i am opposed to this plan as there is no way the area can cope with extra pressure on the local services,
Barry, are you also opposed to this proposal because it is an attempt to bypass democracy? These guys want to override the local plan by building on an area that is supposed to be protected.

Please please no more on green belt,this area is well conjested now its difficult to get out of the junctions as cars bomb along at speed from 50 mph and dont slow to 30 mph, there is only 1 bus from stagecoach comes along st Peters rd the road floods a lot of the traffic queues for ages both ways up to roundabouts we cannot take more enough is enough, how about selling the ones that are being built around Haine Rd first, Then build schools hospital doctors and roads
TDC… You should be ashamed of yourself for considering this… The builds that are going up look like prison blocks. This is the heart of Thanet and is protected under the local plan. One cant help but wonder if this will set a precedent for the rest of the fields between the 3 towns… It makes me feel sick seeing all this building. Thanet does not want this!
Jay Ray, how do we know whether TDC has even been consulted on this. The article doesn’t mention anything about pre-app discussions. It looks like the developer is going to thrust this upon the council after trying to pretend there is public support for it.

Sounds great. We have a massive housing shortage in this country and all these NIMBYs should just be dismissed as selfish people.

A NIMBY is somebody who arguably has a selfish attitude towards their immediate vicinity.

The island is choc-a-bloc already. You cannot move by car or public transport/ It’s quicker by bike until you get out of Thanet. It is not a viable option to develop the green belt land. Environmentally it will be a disaster. Where will the wildlife be shunned to next. It looks like every field is being developed with unwanted or needed housing for out of town people moving in. The population of Thanet must have doubled in the past decade alone, yet there are no more GP surgeries, doctors, hospitals, walk-in centres, and trying to get to Canterbury and Ashford is a nightmare at busy times. When will TDC listen to the public and residents, or even go by the Local Plan not to allow building on green wedge land? I hope they refuse this application.
NO, NO, NO!!!! We have far to many house being built in every corner of Thanet, but no infrastructure to support all these people.
There are no more local residents that require the building of new homes. Perhaps DFLs should look for countryside sites in Surrey or other leafy green counties further north or even the Lake District or Yorkshire moors or better still the Scottish islands,they can work from home up there.
Not sure what DFLs are going to be enticed into a development there! Completely against this development and any others on Thanet’s fields. But this development would appeal to hospital staff and that is about it!
