Denim and Leather Painting Workshop

14th March, 1pm-3pm, Windmill Community Gardens Margate

A workshop with Amina Sefiani from Waste Will Save Us for the second instalment of their Spring Community Upcycling sessions. At this session, you’ll be making wearable art, rethinking waste and transforming old items into new by repurposing what we already have. Breathing new life into old clothes and materials that would otherwise end up in landfill.

BYO garment – dig out and bring an old denim or leather item that could do with a new lease of life.

The workshop will provide the materials including paints from the WWSU archive – a variety of different sprays and emulsions, we will also have water based & natural pigment food waste paints, fabric pens & be providing stencils and waste trash materials which can be incorporated into the designs and used for the painting session.

The wood burner will be lit so can get comfortable and cosy… Moroccan mint tea will be served with Mint picked from the gardens… Music will be played

All ages welcome (those aged under 18 must bring an adult)

Pop-Up Charity Shop

Saturday 15th March 10am to 12 noon St John’s Community Centre, Margate – CT9 1LN

Visit the monthly pop-up Charity Shop and help raise money for the ongoing work of the Community Centre.

There is a whole room of pre-loved clothing, shoes and accessories for men, women and children to explore.

There is an extensive stall of pre-loved toys and children’s books in great condition including lots of Playmobil (Ghostbusters with car, pirates, a coastguard boat, Knights in armour, horses and riders, a hospital set and a wide selection of animals and birds).  There will also be Beanie Babies and Beanie Boos.

Jewellery, craft materials and handmade items, household linens, puzzles, vinyl, collectibles and bric a brac are also available including vintage china and glassware.

This family friendly event happens on the third Saturday of each month with a popular cake stall plus a chance to enjoy bacon rolls and savouries in the cafe space. All are welcome. This is a great place to meet up with friends and family as well as to make new friends.

The Berlin-based, Swiss-born singer released her highly anticipated third album Botanical Garden in September 2024 and was celebrated by the press throughout Europe.

Her songs, somewhere between the spirit of Kurt Vile and early Beck, are an eclectic mix of distorted guitars and lo-fi keyboards. With characteristic nonchalance, Anna Erhard performs mischievous lyrics, setting her everyday life and her wanderings to music.

The Secret Life of Enid Blyton

The Homemade Market launched in February and due to its success will be holding another event on March 16 with more stalls and the TAG pet rescue team.

It will be held at The High Street Ramsgate (the old Townley building) between 10:30am-3:30pm.

Forest Bathing and Tea Ceremony

16th March, 11am, Monkton Nature Reserve

Experience the peace of Forest Bathing in the delightful setting of Monkton Nature Reserve.

The purpose of the exercise is to provide a solution to the ‘tech-boom’ burnout and to inspire people to reconnect with, and protect the country’s forests.

This session will be led by Monkton Nature Reserve’s volunteer, Vicki, who has studied the art of Forest Bathing. Time will be spent on the reserve and attendees can take part in a tea ceremony at the end of the session.

The price includes full access to the reserve on the day for attendees and their family.

Resistance

From the suffragettes marching through London’s streets to the mass protest against the Iraq War, photographers have witnessed a century of British resistance. This landmark exhibition, conceived by acclaimed artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen, chronicles how ordinary people fought for change between 1903 and 2003.

Through the work of renowned photographers including Christina Broom, Vanley Burke, David Hurn, Tish Murtha, Humphrey Spender, Edith Tudor-Hart alongside unknown documentarians, Resistance reveals pivotal moments that shaped modern Britain – from the suffragettes to the Women of Greenham Common, and from the Battle of Cable Street to the Black People’s Day of Action following the New Cross Fire. Together, they show how moments of resistance, both celebrated and forgotten, have shaped British history.
