Thanet vehicle recycling business Reclamet has been shortlisted by Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce for the ‘Sustainability and Decarbonisation Business of the Year Award 2024′.
It comes on the heels of being shortlisted for five National Vehicle Recycling Awards 2024, run by ATF Professional Magazine.
Reclamet’s nominations by Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and the National Vehicle Recycling Awards are in recognition of the business’s commitment to sustainable practices globally.
The company, which also has a 40,000 sq st storage warehouse at Manston airport, employs 85 staff, mostly from Thanet, recycles hundreds of cars and car parts every week and sends some 100,000 car parts to every corner of the UK each year.
It is competing for the latest award against two other large businesses, Walker Construction UK Ltd and Zircon AC Group Ltd.
Reclamet says the sector plays a crucial role in helping to reduce waste and minimise the carbon footprint of vehicle production and disposal.
The business recycles all forms of metal from both commercial or domestic customers, from scrapping an old car or fireplace to large scale industrial equipment.
Reclamet owner and MD Stuart Mann, who took over the company in 2020, says the business ethos is based on reducing, reusing and recycling.
According to the British Vehicle Recyclers’ Association (VRA), the UK Trade Association for vehicle recyclers, in the UK alone the vehicle recycling sector contributes three billion kilograms of carbon emission savings per year.
Mr Mann said: “We are enormously proud to be nominated for these awards. In four years Reclamet has grown in so many ways.
“We have embraced sustainability wholeheartedly through investing in new skills for our people, supporting activities which encourage a thriving local community and reducing our day-to-day carbon impact through reusing and recycling.
“All six award nominations have strengthened my ambition to keep pushing forward and provide a fantastic service which is also helping the planet.”
Staff from Reclamet will be celebrating their achievements at the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards ceremony and gala dinner at Westenhanger Castle, Hythe on the 21st November. One week later, they will be at the National Vehicle Recycling Awards at RAF Cosford, near Birmingham.
