A couple from Margate will be hitting the TV screens this month as they compete on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed.
Tracy and Colin Hadlow hope that their guest house, Westbrook Lodge, will be named the best value for money winner in the 19th series of the popular show.
The parents-of-five have been at the helm of their guesthouse in Westcliff Gardens since November 30th 2020 when they decided to take the plunge and go into business for themselves.
Tracy, who has a hospitality background in everything from Premier Inns to caravan parks, and former office equipment business owner Colin moved to Thanet from Sheppey when the opportunity to buy Westbrook Lodge came up.
Tracey, 54, said: “We have got many happy memories of Margate, Colin proposed on Margate beach and we would always come for things like birthdays.
“When I was 13 and 14 it was the days of Bembom’s and the deals with the train fare and entry so we (Tracy and friends) would jump on the train from Gillingham, and I came down ever since then.”
Filming for Four in a Bed started last October and lasted around two weeks. The scenes for classic car and 50s and 60s music and fashion enthusiasts Tracy and Colin were shot over three days.
Tracy said: “It was an experience and lots of fun. We had lots of laughs and lots of tears and we made new friends.”
The format of the show involves owners from four guesthouses staying at each other’s venues and, after deciding whether it is value for money, pay what they think is a fair price.
Tracy said: “You have got to look at where the area is because what might be value for money in Margate might not be elsewhere.
“You look at what is offered in the room, is it ensuite or a shared bathroom, do they have a nice tea tray and extra personal touches, is it clean, is it worth what they are charging?
“There is also the hosting, some people do not hst at all, you just check in, get your key and never see them.”
A winner is declared for the show every five episodes in an episode called ‘Payment Day’.
The episodes featuring Tracy and Colin, 49, air from Monday 25th November on Channel Four at 5pm.
Tracy said: “There was lots going on when we were filming but the first time we see the programme will be the same time as everyone else. The only difference is we know what went on!”
