Westwood Cross shopping centre has confirmed it will not hold a Christmas light switch-on event this year.
In previous year’s a big event had been held with acts such as Liberty X, East 17 members and tribute act performances.
This year the shpping centre will host a Christmas market and Santa’s Grotto but no official light switch-on.
A spokesperson for Westwood Cross said, “We’ll be welcoming back our Christmas Market and Santa’s Grotto this year, alongside our much-loved festive decorations – with some new additions too.
“There won’t be a specific Christmas lights ‘switch-on’ event at Westwood Cross this year. Last year’s feedback indicated that not all our guests were able to attend the one-night-only event, so we are focusing on creating memorable moments across the entire festive season instead.”
Based in the main mall of the centre, the Christmas market will return from Saturday 16th November, offering a selection of festive products from small, independently run businesses.
The market stalls will be trading from Saturday 16th November to Tuesday 24th December.
Families are also invited to meet Mr. Claus at Santa’s Grotto. Open from Friday 29th November, until Christmas Eve, adults and children on the ‘nice’ list can meet Santa and receive an age-appropriate gift. Tickets are priced from £6.50 each, with all adults accompanying a paid child entering for free.
Santa’s Grotto will be in the Sundial area of the shopping centre and welcomes walk-ups; however, it’s recommended that bookings are made online in advance.

Things are pretty desperate when they can’t even get a tribute act to turn on the lights.
Am I the only one who thinks WX is a poor person shopping centre ?
It’s not undercover, it blows a gale between the shops, the shops are bland.
I much prefer the shopping centre that’s undercover, different types of shops and cafes. WX just feels like it was done on the cheap, no planning etc
COULD NOT AGREE-MORE-SHOULD HAVE BEEN BUILT WEATHER FRIENDLY UNDER ONE ROOF-PLUS THE CAR PARK.
