A man has been taken to hospital following a collision by Westwood this morning (September 28).
Police and ambulance were called to the roundabout at Westwood Road and Margate Road at 10.25am to reports of a crash involving a motorbike.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at 10.25am to a report of a collision involving a motorbike at the roundabout where Westwood Road meets Margate Road in Broadstairs.
“Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and a man was taken to hospital after injuries were reported.”
South East Coast Ambulance Service has been contacted for further details.
The problem with that roundabout is if you’re coming from Ramsgate going to Margate, you’re supposed to use the right hand lane , left hand lane for turning left only , many drivers completely ignore this and things go wrong , but I find the next roundabout by star lane to be more dangerous, especially with drivers that just won’t indicate!
Also, cyclists are advised to keep to the outside lanes of roundabouts at all time, which frustrates impatient drivers. As a cyclist myself, give me traffic lights any day!
Had the same yesterday – I was in the right lane to go straight on, and the car next to me in the left lane (the specific turn left lane) went right and nearly took my car out !!!
Why is this go in the left hand lane to turn right, and right lane to go left, such a Thanet thing in the last few years? Don’t see it as much anywhere else !
If KCC blocked the left lane at that point of the roundabout by building out a section then all drivers in the left lane would have to obey the arrow and turn left from that lane. But KCC are adamant on causing problems with crazy initiatives that are later undone. I sometimes wonder who has charge of highways and if they have any certificates in civil engineering. I am sure they are still sitting at home playing with designs on computers.
Not surprised-there were a couple of learners/provisionals roaring along towards there earlier this morning like lunatics.
Is it compulsory for motorcyclists in Thanet to not have silencers on their exhausts, to have constant backfiring, to try to show-off/intimidate other drivers & pedestrians by driving like they are having a MotoGP race at Silverstone-even at that roundabout? I have even seen some of them doing wheelies up there. Rarely see or hear a sensible motorcyclist in recent years.
That’s 2 this week then? or the ones reported on and around the WWX racetrack.
Hope the motorbike guy is OK
I am surprised that there are not more accidents. The road network around Thanet is not fit for purpose.
This is to expected with the amount of new homes being built around Westwood. Stop building and protect our greenbelt!
“The road network around Thanet is not fit for purpose.”
Its plenty fit for purpose unless you drive like a b3llend and forget you’re also traffic, when you’re in traffic.

Ohhhh, its just nimbyism, as per.
I don’t belieeeeeve it! Yet another accident…..seems to be one a day at present
Wishing the injured person a quick recovery.
Maybe its me but in thanet there are so many badly designed, maintained and often poor driving skills. Roundabouts are the cheap idea of not having traffic lights which is ok if everyone drove, biked, cycled and mobility scooters actually obeyed the rules but no its a free for all.
Nothing will change, they could rename the isle of thanet The isle of rtc accidents and near misses. I am orf.

Traffic lights create more traffic. Roundabouts keep it moving. ITs simple road/city planning.
