Fire crews attend large rubbish blaze at building site in Margate

People living or working near to Westwood Point in Margate were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to to smoke coming from a large amount of rubbish alight at a building site on Nash Lane this morning (September 16).

Two fire engines were sent to the scene at 8.38am. The advice to keep doors and windows shut was lifted at 10am when firefighting operations were completed.

Crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames before dampening down any hotspots.

There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.

  1. Trying to dispose of this way rather than pay aa contractor to take it away. There have been plenty more smelly fires like this in Margate lit after dark throughout the summer months.
