Thanet AC Seniors end season on a high

Thanet AC Seniors

On August 17, Thanet Athletics Club travelled to the K2 in Crawley to compete at their final Southern Athletics League match of the season.

The small team of Thanet AC athletes provided a strong & competitive environment in the events they covered across all disiplines; sprints, jumps, throws and relays.

Known for often being the loudest supporting team at these events, yet again, the athletes did not disappoint. Pushing some great performances out of all the team’s athletes. Some notable performances came from Leah Wearing-Channing with a PB in the 100m and Aston Fredericks with a Long Jump of 5.90m.

Ending the day was Amelia Lawton who threw a PB in the discus, accompanied by an extremely enthusiastic expression of her effort which had the stadium roaring!

We must also give special mention to Aaron Mckoewn, who after a whole season of fighting in the Discus, won the event.

A congratulations and thanks go to all athletes who competed for us in this league, especially those for whom it was their first time and more so for those covering extra events to earn the club those vital last points. Doing so meant we finished a very respectable 6th place for the season – beating 7th by just 1 point!

Special thanks go out to the club officials that have helped this season with these competitions and an extra thanks to Nick Purt for team managing with support from Lewis Parsons.

Two events remain this season for Thanet AC, with Kent Relay Championships on Sunday 8th September at Norman Park and the Kent Combined Events Championship at Medway Park on the 14-15th September.

Missing from the athlete line-up on the 17th was Rebecca Sommerville who was competing for Great Britain at the World Masters Championships in Slottsskogsvallen, Sweden. Becca, competing at international level for the very first time, came away with a season’s best of 31.06s in the 200m – well done, Becca!
