The Ramsgate Over 60’s Walking Football Squad have just returned from their most successful European tour after reaching the finals of two tournaments at the Browns Sporting Complex, near Vilamoura in Portugal.

One team, led by Phil Moody, reached the main Cup Final before succumbing in a penalty shoot out to Olhao who fielded a team of expats while the other Ramsgate side, captained by Tim Mather, lost out on penalties in the final of the Plate.

In total the two sides over the two days of the event played 13 games with a record of three wins, eight draws and two defeats.

Unfortunately on the second day of knock-out football in the four drawn games that went to penalties only one was won. However reaching two finals and competing so well against teams from England, Scotland and Portugal represented a fine overall achievement.

The squad benefited from the fantastic facilities at Browns and particularly enjoyed playing on the superbly maintained grass pitches.

After winning the Kent Over 60’s Walking Football Cup in October, where Ramsgate won both their semi final and final on penalties, the club is going from strength to strength.

Two hour sessions are held on Wednesday and Friday mornings at Southwood, home of Ramsgate FC, between 10am and midday. Anyone interested in giving Walking Football a go should contact Rob Pugh on 07909220539.
