St Lawrence College students visit harbour boat owners

Harbour visit for St Lawrence youngsters

Eighteen children from at St Lawrence College, in Ramsgate, have visited a range of boats in Ramsgate Harbour with their teachers.

Boat owners were quick to offer their vessels for the visit, following a request from Martin Morgans from the Royal Temple Yacht Club, where the college is developing a strong relationship as sponsors of Ramsgate Week.

Two sailing boats and one power boat were visited at Ramsgate Royal Harbour Marina. Alan and Sharon Page, owners of powerboat ‘Remi 2’, said: “It was a really wonderful visit and very safely organised by the teachers. The St Lawrence College pupils were so well behaved, both on the pontoons and on our boat, and asked lots of questions.”

Jonathan Scruby, Housemaster, added: “St Lawrence College is home to over 170 boarding students from age 7 to 18. I am responsible for looking after those girls and boys from ages 7-13 who board in Kirby House, who were in attendance on the day. It is wonderful to share such strong links with our local community, opening the minds of our young people through experiences like this.

“The children enjoyed learning about the boats enormously. They absolutely loved the experience of going on board and learning about the workings of each vessel. We would like to extend our thanks to the Royal Temple Yacht Club and to the boat owners for facilitating this fantastic visit and helping us to reinforce our links with the local Ramsgate community. We look forward to visiting again soon.”
