Thanet Girls Cricket Academy earmarked to open in January

Thanet Girls Cricket Academy

Work is taking place to launch a new Thanet Girls Cricket Academy.

St Lawrence College, Broadstairs Cricket Club and Broadstairs dad Ed Foster says the aim of the academy is to fill a gap in provision in this part of the county.

The academy will be open to senior school girls (years 7 to 13) in the Thanet area, who want to play hard ball cricket.

Ed said: “Experience of playing hard ball cricket is preferred, but not essential – we want to encourage more girls to take part in this brilliant team sport. With our partners, we aim to provide weekly training sessions and practice matches during term time, with experienced and qualified age grade coaches, and superb quality facilities at St Lawrence College during the winter, and at Broadstairs Cricket Club during the summer.

“We are finalising the arrangements for our first session, which will take place after the Christmas break, in early January 2024.

“With the increasing popularity and importance of women’s and girls’ cricket, and the fact that England women are multiple world champions, it is important to provide facilities for girls to be able to play together, without the added pressure of playing with and against boys.”
