The West End comes to Ellington Park and will feature Olivier Award winner Leanne Jones of Hairspray

The West End comes to Ramsgate

Dust off your jazz hands and get ready for a West End Fest in Ellington Park.

The free family event brings together professional performers and fabulous local talent on Saturday, August 27, 2pm-4pm. Journey through the West End with performances from classics such as Les Miserables, Annie, Grease and My Fair Lady, to more modern hits including We Will Rock You, Matilda, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and Six, plus many more along the way. Ramsgate Festival of Sound brings the West End to Ellington Park with a show by Stage Door Theatre Company.

Olivier Award winner, Leanne Jones, who originated the role of Tracy Turnblad in the West End production of Hairspray will be joining the cast and performing on the bandstand, which will become the main stage for the day.

Show producer, Heidi Moran, who is also performing, said: “This is a great opportunity for the community to experience the West End for free. We have such a variety for the whole family, songs from classics to newer shows and it will be a great opener for the Festival of Sound, which is such a wonderful event for our town.

“It is wonderful to have Leanne performing, she is such a talent and is a patron of Stage Door Arts.”

Leanne Jones will be joined onstage by Heidi Moran (Sister Act), Sharon Liff (In the Heights), Tayla Jones (Ghost), Yasmin Palmer (Les Miserables) plus the talented youth cast from Stage Door Arts Academy, who are no strangers to the stage and screen, with many appearing in the West End, on TV and in feature films.

Stage Door Theatre Company has also invited other local theatre groups to perform. These include Ramsgate Operatic Society, which will perform numbers from their upcoming show, Evita.

Award winning Thanet Vocal Collective, Ramsgate’s own inclusive, community social singing choir, will not only be providing fantastic backing vocals, but will also be performing a few of their own numbers.

Bring your blankets to sit on, join in with singalong numbers and dance along to some of the best the West End has to offer.
