Margate dad’s penguin tales prompt generous donation to Foreland Fields School

The Penguin Family is about autism and kindness

Children’s books penned by a Margate dad and starring a penguin family have been the prompt for a brilliant £14,000 donation to Foreland Fields School.

Tim Johnston wrote the penguin family tales this year in a bid to raise awareness of autism and to bring in funds for the Foreland Fields school in Ramsgate.

The Penguin Family books gently illustrate living day to day with autism.

In November Tim emailed manufacturer Denso to ask if the company would buy a few of the books to support the specialist school.

But the message he received back  revealed the director is.also a trustee of the FB Coales No.4 ( Family Trust).

The purpose of the trust is to support local charities in Kent and SE London and the board is now funding the sensory equipment for the school’s new hydro-pool.

Tim said: “I emailed the company to see if they’d be interested in donating some books to a local library in their area and they came back with this donation. The money will go towards the sensory equipment for the pool so will cater for many of the children that go to the school.”

Foreland Fields moved to its Newlands Lane site in Ramsgate in 2017 and has been fundraising for improvements including the hydrotherapy pool, sensory garden and playground equipment.

Tim’s books have raised hundreds of pounds for the school.
