Ramsgate’s Little Ships scoops Best Breakfast award

Owner James and executive chef Craig at the Little Ships

Ramsgate’s Little Ships Restaurant & Café has been named Best Breakfast Venue at the LUXlife Magazine 2019 Restaurant & Bar Awards.

Since its launch in July 2018 as an annexe to the Royal Harbour Hotel, Little Ships has become a popular gourmet breakfast venue.

Its brunch menu, which is served until noon, includes crushed avocado, natural yoghurt laced with fruit and honey, pastries, toasted sourdough muffins, as well as full – and light – English breakfast, with vegetarian and vegan options.

The Little Ships’ name plays tribute to the flotilla of privately owned boats used to help evacuate stranded British troops from the Dunkirk beaches in 1940.  It also refers to Thanet local trawlers, which supply the fresh fish cooked in the restaurants.

The awning sports the colours of the Dunkirk medal ribbon and inside James has also displayed some wartime belongings from a family member – including a Dunkirk medal.

LUXlife awards coordinator, Edward Faulkner, said: “We showcase the individuals and enterprises who offer outstanding gastronomic delicacies.  The awards acknowledge the best establishments offering sumptuous cuisine from across the globe.”

Entries included those from artisan kitchens, innovative street cuisine operators, gourmet restaurants and quaint cafes.

Little Ships owner James Thomas said: “It’s a great honour to receive this accolade, which is testament to the skills and dedication of our chef Craig Mather and his team – showcasing the very best of the fresh local produce sourced from local farms and fishing boats.”

The Little Ships is open all day from 8:30am, seven days a week. Find it at 54-56 Harbour Parade, Ramsgate
