It is all change in the kitchen at Cliffs café and record shop in Northdown Road.

Margate Supper duo Tomas Eriksson and son Rio, who were in charge of the kitchen for two and a half years, are branching out to open the New Street Bistro this Summer,

Cliffs bosses Ed Warren and Keir Muddiman have now revealed that the Bus Café team will be heading up the café kitchen from next month.

The duo, who opened Cliffs in 2016, thanked dad-of-four Tomas and Rio, 15, for their vital help in launching Cliffs’ kitchen, saying: “We wish Tomas and Rio all the best with their new venture, the New Street Bistro in Old Town. They’ve worked so so hard as our chefs at Cliffs for over two and a half years, having helped us build and launch the kitchen from scratch. Their well deserved reputation in Margate is exceptional and he will absolutely smash it over there.”

And they have announced the Bus Café team, of Simon Lindley, wife Jodie Ellena and friends Xander Muir and Lois Du Plessis, will be taking the helm from June 7, saying: “We’ll be keeping some of our classics and adding some new items that will be great for breakfast, brunch and lunch.

The Bus Café, which started in the Old Town and is now based at  Nayland’s Royal Crescent Promenade as the anchor business for the ‘Sun Deck’ area, will continue to trade while Xander takes charge of Cliffs with a rotation of bus café staff.

In a statement the team said: “It’s been an incredible three years since starting the Bus Cafe in Margate’s Old Town, building a breakfast and street food lunch menu that people travel from all over Kent and beyond to try.

“We’ve loved creating a new street food and drink destination at The Sun Deck on Margate beach giving us all a little slice of holiday right at our doorstep! So, when the opportunity to collaborate with one of our favourite Cliftonville institutions came up, the four of us jumped at the new challenge of taking over the kitchen at Cliffs!

“We’re super happy and excited to serve our food to a whole new audience of locals and visitors alike!”

“Normal Bus Cafe service will continue as usual!”
