Margate lifeboat launched after concerns for jet skiers

Margate RNLI inshore lifeboat

Margate’s RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched today (Sunday) after a report two jet skiers were in trouble.

A member of the public raised the alarm after spotting the two people making slow progress off The Lido in Cliftonville around 4pm.

But once the lifeboat crew arrived on scene they established the jet skiers were not in need of assistance.

Peter Barker, volunteer lifeboat press officer at RNLI Margate, said: “The two craft were well-prepared for their outing with a contact ashore observing their safety.

“We are grateful to the first informant for raising their concerns. Rather a checked-out false alarm than missing a genuine distress situation.

“If you see anything untoward at sea or on the shoreline dial 999 and ask for coastguard.”
