Some 161 knitters across the generations helped make the Thanet Sunrise Rotary club’s 10th Big Knit the biggest ever last Saturday (March 16).
The event at Holy Trinity Church, Cliftonville, opened by Mayor of Margate Julie Dellar, was in aid of charities East Kent Strokes, QEQM Dementia appeal, East Kent Mencap and Demelza House.
Spokesperson Caroline Saunders said: “We could never have known 10 years ago how this event would grow and how many would return year after year bringing more friends and making more friends.
“It has become a well-loved community event and raised around £50,000 over the years.
“Three of our knitters- Deidre Stokes, Wendy Miller and Jean Mcarthy – have attended all 10 years and were awarded certificates.”
The longest length achieved on the day was 20 and a half inches.
A total of £3,600 was raised on Saturday with more sponsorship to come in.
