Entry now open for the Ricki Savage 20 Mile Road Race

The Ricki Savage 20 mile road race takes place in March

The Ricki Savage 20 Mile Road Race, in memory of the 27 year old from Ramsgate who died from a heart attack after completing the Dublin Marathon in 2013, will take place on Sunday, March 4.

The road race is one of the largest in the south east and sponsored by Oakwood Homes. Organised by Thanet Roadrunners AC, it is the second biggest race in the club’s calendar and attracts typically around 500 entrants.

Since 2015, the Thanet 20 Race has been renamed and held in memory of club member Ricki.

Adrian Smith, race director, said: “Thanet has hosted this race for many years and it attracts many runners from across the UK and occasionally some from the continent.  The race provides ideal training preparation for anyone undertaking any of the popular spring marathons such as Brighton and London.’

“The race will start and finish at the Boating Pool in Ramsgate. The route will provide each runner with two loops taking in Ramsgate harbour and seafront, the beautiful King George VI park, as well as Broadstairs seafront before turning back to the outskirts of Pegwell Country Park.

“We are pleased once again to be sponsored by Oakwood Homes, University of Kent and, Adrian Smith Associates.  The race will be feature chip timing for the athletes, and each finisher will receive a race memento and goody bag as well as a free photo download from the race.  £1 from each entry will also be given to a chosen local charity for this event.

“Runners and spectators are actively encouraged to get involved as are any helpers/volunteers who could marshal or help at water stations on the route. We are lucky to have The Princess of Wales Royal Regiment helping us by supplying marquees at the finish area and for providing volunteers on the day.”

Entries can now be made on the Thanet Roadrunners website or via the Run Britain website.
