Fourth man arrested in Cliftonville murder investigation

Kent Police officers investigating a murder in  Cliftonville have made a fourth arrest.

A 41-year-old man from Margate was arrested today (July 6) and remains in police custody following the discovery of the body of 38-year-old Edvardas Barscevicius in Ethelbert Terrace on Monday 3 July.

Previous arrests

  • A 54-year-old man has been released without charge
  • A 35-year-old man has been released pending further enquiries
  • Aurimas Vilius, 24, of Ethelbert Terrace has been charged with murder.

Court appearance

Mr Vilius appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court  today charged with the murder of Edvardas Barscevicius and assault on another man, also living in Margate, in connection with the incident. He remains in custody and is next due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 10 July.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate continue to carry out enquiries into the death.
