Traffic offence reports were issued, 14 breath tests conducted and four separate drugs searches undertaken by police patrols in Broadstairs responding to community concerns about bad driving in the area.
On Thursday 18 December, officers set up roadside checkpoints to speak to drivers as they passed through Dumpton Park Drive.
Concerns had been raised by residents about antisocial driving in the area during recent engagement events and during the operation, a total of 29 vehicles were checked by officers, 15 of which were stopped for speeding.
Officers issued two traffic offence reports, conducted the breath tests and the drugs searches in the wider area, including one which resulted in the seizure of cannabis.
A man in his 40s was arrested at the roadside after officers noticed a strong scent of cannabis coming from his vehicle. After a search of the car, a class B drug was seized and he was arrested for drug driving. He has been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.
A second arrest was made after a vehicle failed to stop when instructed to do so by officers. The vehicle was found a short time after, and enquiries led to the arrest of a man in his 60s for possession of a class A drug. He has been bailed whilst enquiries continue.
Chief Inspector for Thanet Ian Swallow said: “When communities contact us with concerns in their area we listen, and we take action.
“Antisocial behaviour of any kind, while often committed by the few, affect the many and it is important that is challenged and those responsible are held accountable.
“Traffic enforcement like the work in Dumpton Park Drive and the surrounding area is an important part of policing, helping to keep road users safe and communities more enjoyable for all.”
