A man has admitted causing fatal injuries to his victim in an assault in Ramsgate.
Marshall Mitchell, 35 punched victim Jimmy Castle in an unprovoked attack outside a pub in Harbour Street, Ramsgate on Friday 28 March.
During the attack, Mr Castle fell to the floor, hitting his head on the ground and was taken to a local hospital for treatment but later transferred to a London hospital and placed in an induced coma.
Mitchell was arrested the next day.
On Friday 18 April, Mr Castle, who was 68, died in hospital. A postmortem examination concluded a traumatic brain injury to be the cause of death.
Mitchell from Crescent Road, Ramsgate, was charged with manslaughter and on Monday 21 July at Canterbury Crown Court pleaded guilty. He will be sentenced on 5 November 2025 at the same court.
Detective Sergeant Dean Sycamore said: “This case illustrates the fatal consequences of mindless violence; just one punch can lead to the serious harm, or even the death, of another individual.
“I would like to offer my condolences to the victim’s loved ones, and I hope this now brings some comfort to them.’”
Queue you telling us how awful it is! This is an awful story and the results especially to the victim and his family are immeasurable but this is thank God not normal in the UK let alone Ramsgate. Why are you always moaning how bad it is but providing no ideas to a solution to what you think?

(a) Demolish / convert at least 50% of shops, and replace with housing… then put all remaining businesses close together, near both public transport and parking.
(b) Bring back ferries.
(c) Bring back the airport… for passengers
There are clearly too many unemployed young people with nothing to do, so both (b) and (c) could potentially provide lots of jobs, as well as encourage visitors.

Murder is not a day-to-day occurrence in Ramsgate. And I do think some commentators are exaggerating “how bad Ramsgate is”.
